New report says EU exaggerating oil sands claims

A new government report says the oil sands don’t produce nearly as much greenhouse gas as the European Union is claiming.

U.S.-based Jacobs Consultancy found that new technologies mean the oil sands only produce 12 percent more GHGs than conventional crude oil.

The EU has rated the oil sands as producing 22 percent more.

But the Pembina Institute says the report is cherry-picking the best technologies to paint a rosier picture.
