Province issues fire ban in forested areas

The province has issued a fire ban for all forested areas, reaching from Fort McMurray to Waterton Lakes National Park in the south, to over near Manning.

Wildfire information officer Whitney Exton says the ban is because of dry conditions, and the high risk of fires starting.

The ban prohibits lighting outdoor fires, fireworks, and the use of portable campfires.

A wildfire alert has also been issued for Athabasca County near Grassland, where a forest fire started on Sunday and is threatening rural homes. That fire has burned about one thousand hectares.
