Wildrose: Allen appointment 'not a major development'

The provincial opposition isn’t jumping for joy over Mike Allen’s appointment as a special advisor on Highway 63.

Wildrose MLA Shane Saskiw says it’s been overhyped.

“It’s absolutely not a major development,” he said. “We’ve seen a bunch of broken promises and empty words, and we want action on this file.”

“And I also think it shows just how powerless PC MLAs are when they actually have to have a special appointment to advocate on important local issues in their area.”

The Lac La Biche MLA says the way 63 has been handled shows poor priorities.

“So instead of spending, for example, two billion dollars to pump CO2 into the ground, or 300 million dollars to renovate MLA offices, the Wildrose would like to see that money go towards twinning Highway 63,” he said.

Saskiw says real progress shouldn’t take this long.

“I was a little surprised that we’re going to have to wait six weeks to see what the plan is,” he said. “We thought that that would have been done already. We don’t understand why that should take so long, and of course, why didn’t this happen months and months ago?”

Alison Redford has given Allen until June 29th to report on accelerating the twinning project.
