Father Merc principal defends school in wake of fight

PHOTO. Father Patrick Mercredi Community High School is one of two Catholic high schools in the FMCSD. Schools across the region and Canada will be busy with children, teens, and parents on the first day of school: September 3, 2019.

The principal at Father Mercredi is clarifying what happened on Wednesday.

Natasha MacArthur-Poole says staff did their jobs properly.

“It happened off school grounds, after school, and as soon as we saw students making their way to an area, we knew something was up,” she said. “So it was broken up really quickly – but it was just, it was a fight.”

She says the 16 year old who was charged is not a Father Merc student, though the victim was.

She also says there weren’t 50-60 students watching as police reported, but there were actually fewer than 10.
