University says oil sands will reduce overall emissions

A university in Texas says more oil sands crude actually means fewer greenhouse gas emissions.

A report from Rice University says the U.S. ought to make it a policy to increase imports from Alberta.

It says that would allow the States to stop burning coal and focus on using its natural gas reserves; that would more than offset the emissions from the oil sands.

The study also says more than 50 percent of the money Canada makes from selling the oil will be spent in the U.S.
