Allen's 63 report: More safety measures, twinning within 8 years

MLA Mike Allen’s long-awaited report on Highway 63 is in, and there’s a laundry list of suggestions.

“We want to see the addition of more passing lanes, there’ll be the addition of safety rest areas, I’m recommending improved maintenance on the highway,” he said.

He also wants to see a dedicated RCMP and Sheriff presence, increased penalties for dangerous drivers, and vehicle seizure.

Transport Minister Ric McIver says at the current rate, the project would take 11 years to finish, but he thinks the province can shorten that timeframe by at least a third.
