Southern Pacific injects first steam into first project

Southern Pacific has reached another milestone with its first oil sands project.

It’s injected steam into its STP-McKay project northwest of the city, marking the official start-up of the site.

It’ll circulate the steam for another three to four months before production starts up.

The project is designed to produce 12 thousand barrels per day but planned expansions will bump that up to 36 thousand.
