A woman from Fort McMurray has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for importing cocaine, according to the Edmonton Sun.
23-year old Sindy Rodriguez had pleaded not guilty to the charges but was convicted in an Edmonton court.
In November of 2009, six decorative candles were sent to Rodriguez’s Fort McMurray home from Panama.
But a border inspection agent in Toronto found the candles had cocaine in them.
The RCMP found more than 12 kilograms of cocaine in 12 small packages in the candles, worth as much as 730 thousand dollars.
Rodriguez claimed she didn’t know what was in the package.
