High Level fires enter Fort McMurray district

The two wildfires near High Level that have been blowing smoke into this region have now crossed over into Fort McMurray’s district.

Local fire crews were already handling those two fires, which were burning more than 2300 hectares.

Two other fires closer to town have gone from being held to now being under control.

Those are a 7.5 hectare fire near fort Smith and and a 12-hectare fire west of the Kearl project.

There’s also a group of two fires north of Fort Chipewyan that’s being monitored; they’re more than 14 thousand hectares combined.
