Report predicts Northern Gateway would add $10.5b to economy

The Fraser Institute says an oil sands pipeline to the west coast could add 10.5 billion dollars to the economy.

A new report from the think tank comes out strongly on the side of Enbridge’s Northern Gateway project, as well as expanding the terminal at Kitimat BC and the TransMountain Pipeline.

It says the benefits would be felt nation-wide, from construction jobs along the pipeline route, to manufacturing jobs in Ontario and Quebec to supply the steel for the line.

But it also says to realize the full benefits, the country has to do something about the regulatory system, which according to the Institute studies projects “to death.”
