Suncor cuts emissions, water use

Suncor, oilsands project

Suncor says it’s continuing to make strides on sustainability.

The company’s 2012 Sustainability Report says it’s cut water use in half since 2004 despite tripling production, and cut greenhouse gas emission intensity by 53%.

VP of Sustainable Development Gord Lambert says they’re happy with how things look.

“We were very pleased with the progress we’re making towards our 2015 goals on water consumption, reclamation of disturbed land, energy efficiency, and air emissions,” he said.

“In terms of investment in communities, we’ve invested now $130 million in communities where we live and work since 1998, and we’re very proud of the impact that we’re having in improving quality of life and helping communities out.”

The company is aiming to cut water use by another 12%, air emissions by 10%, and double the amount of reclaimed land, all by 2015.
