Enbridge faces opposition to eastbound pipeline

Environmental groups are lining up to oppose Enbridge’s plan to ship bitumen east.

The National Energy Board has approved one of the company’s two requests to send oil to central Canada.

It can now reverse a line from Sarnia, Ontario to an area near Hamilton.

Next, it wants to reverse a line from there to Montreal.

Environmental groups say the pipelines aren’t designed to handle bitumen, but Enbridge says there’s no evidence to support those groups’ claim that bitumen is more corrosive for pipelines.
