The Chief Financial Officer of Alberta Health Services has been fired just hours before his huge expense claims were made public.

Allaudin Merali has only been at AHS since May.

The CBC obtained documents showing he spent almost 350 thousand dollars of taxpayer money when he worked for the health region in Edmonton from ’05 to ’08.

Acting CEO Chris Mazurkewich says they’ll try to make expenses more transparent.

“Those expenses, along with all of the executive expenses, are going to be posted publicly within the next couple of weeks,” he said. “So people will have an opportunity to see those and judge our expenses and his expenses.”

At one point, Merali picked up a sixteen-hundred dollar dinner cheque, and also bought a 12 dollar pen.
