Census ends at 94.5%

The municipality has come up just short of its goal in the census.

It says it managed to count 94.5% of the municipality after getting a one-month extension from the province.

That leftover 5.5 percent came from people who refused to be counted, vacant homes, and absentee residents.

The province would only automatically accept the numbers if 99% had been counted.

But the municipality says it’s confident it can still get the numbers approved because of its strong supporting documentation.

If the province rejects the numbers, it’ll use the much lower federal census count to decide on funding.

That decision will come down by late October.
