Almost 900 long weekend charges on Highway 63

Police laid 881 charges on Highway 63 over the long weekend.

The province says 655 speeding tickets were handed out, as well as one for drunk driving, 22 other alcohol charges, 19 hazardous charges like dangerous driving, and five for distracted driving.

More than 17 percent of all the charges in the province over the long weekend were handed out on Highway 63.

It’s almost triple the number of charges that were laid over the Canada Day long weekend, when there were 299.

This was the first crackdown to feature two new officers patrolling the road; there will be 14 more added by early next year.
