The Fort McMurray Airport says it will start flights to Mexico on December 19.
They’ll be weekly Wednesday flights to Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, and run until March 20, 2013.
Sunwing Airlines will be the carrier for the flights; it already runs year-round flights from Calgary and Edmonton.
Canada Customs will move into the airport this fall, allowing for international flights.
The airport is still on track for its massive new terminal to open in 2014.
