Doctors call for oil sands health study

Suncor, oilsands project

Canadian doctors say they want to find out what health effects the oil sands industry is having on people.

The Canadian Medical Association’s annual general council meeting passed a resolution asking for the government and industry to give them the data on what effects development can have.

Originally the resolution only targetted the oilsands, but Alberta doctors managed to get it changed to all natural resource extraction projects.

The doctors say it’s hard to reassure patients who live near projects and are worried about health effects, when they don’t have that data.
