IEA head tours Suncor

The head of the International Energy Agency says Canada has got to do something about the oilsands’ bad public image.

Maria van der Hoeven toured Suncor this week and says critics will derail investment in the industry unless Canada does a better job representing it to the public.

She says the country needs new technologies to make the industry more environmentally friendly – and it needs them faster.

Van der Hoeven told an audience in Calgary that underestimating public sentiment isn’t good business.

Canada is one of 28 members of the IEA.
