Oil sands set in-situ record

The oilsands set a new record for in-situ production in June.

Calgary investment firm First Energy Capital Corporation says production was just over 1 million barrels per day that month, up almost 200 thousand barrels per day from a year ago.

It was mostly because of a huge boost to production at Cenovus’s Foster Creek SAGD project; it set a new record at 125 thousand b-p-d.

Experts say more bitumen will be recovered from thermal projects than traditional mining by 2015; but this latest report means that’s already ahead of schedule.
