Taylor Swifts' Red tops album sales

Just how popular is Taylor Swift?

So popular that the country music sensation has just shocked the music industry by selling an incredible 1.208 million copies of her latest album, Red, in just one week in the U.S.

Billboard reports that those are the biggest numbers posted for any album in a single week since Detroit rapper Eminem dropped his classic The Eminem Show way back in 2002. The album, which is only the 18th disc to sell over a million copies in one week since SoundScan began tracking back in 1991, is Swift’s third number one hit.

The only album by a female artist to ever debut with bigger numbers is the Britney Spears classic Oops!… I Did It Again. That album sold 1.319 million copies out of the gate back in 2000.

It’s not all good news for Swift these days. The tabloids are reporting that the star recently ended her high-profile relationship with Conor Kennedy.

USA Today reports that in the new issue of Cosmo, Swift explains that she’s tired of difficult relationships.

‘I just don’t ever want to end up in a relationship that isn’t fair ever again,” Swift says. “I’ve had a lot of dark and twisty situations happen, enough to realize that when someone exhibits signs of evoking a dark and twisty relationship and dark and twisty feelings, it’s not interesting to me.”
