Country Music sweethearts shine at the CMAs

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton were the toast of the town last night after winning a total of four trophies, including a joint award for “Song of the Year,” at the Country Music Association Awards in Nashville, Tennessee.

The married singers shared the prize for their powerful duet “Over You,” and Lambert had to contain her emotion while they accepted the award. Shelton told the crowd, “I lost my brother in a car wreck when I was 14 years old, and later in life when I decided I wanted to be a country singer, my dad always told me, ‘Son, you should write a song about your brother.’ I lost my dad in January, and it’s so amazing to me that tonight, even after he’s gone, he’s still right.”

He then told his wife, “I just needed the right person to write this song with and the right person to sing it. I love you so much, baby.”

How sweet!

Shelton won the coveted “Entertainer of the Year” award, beating Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney. He also won “Male Vocalist of the Year,” while Lambert picked up “Female Vocalist of the Year.”

The show kicked off with a rousing song by Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Eric Church collaboration. Other performers included Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Vince Gill, the Zac Brown Band and Band Perry.

One of the evening’s highlights was a tribute to the victims of Hurricane Sandy by Brad Paisley, who sang “Southern Comfort Zone” with a gospel choir.

Willie Nelson received a lifetime achievement award.
