Alberta neck-and-neck with Saskatchewan in econ. growth

The Conference Board of Canada says Alberta and Saskatchewan will be the places to be for economic growth over the next few years.

Its latest report says those provinces will also be the least affected by any global market uncertainty.

Associate director Marie-Christine Bernard says in our case, we owe it to natural resources.

“We’re seeing a lot of investment,” she said. “If you look at Alberta in particular, there’s a lot of investment in the oil sands sector, and that’s having a lot of positive effects on many sectors in Alberta. We’re seeing very tight labour markets.”

She says the race to the top between both provinces is close right now – but she expects Saskatchewan will take the lead in the next couple of years.
