Oil sands railway to Alaska proposed

A banker from northeast BC is proposing a massive railway from Fort McMurray to Alaska as an alternative to pipelines.

The group Generating for Seven Generations is suggesting a twenty four-hundred kilometre long railway running northwest from the city to Valdez.

A single track could transport three times as much bitumen as the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline to BC.

CEO Matt Vickers claims the idea first came from the Yukon and Alaska governments, and that there’s already support from aboriginal groups along the way, including the Fort McMurray First Nation.

But the project still needs a feasibility study to finish.
