Suncor, oilsands project

Suncor will be in front of the Alberta Court of Appeal this week to make its case to randomly drug test its employees.

3,400 employees with Local 707 of the CEP Union are fighting against it.

They say that under Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms, employees have the right to privacy and shouldn’t be tested based on suspicion.

Suncor said that if an employee is found using, it will pay to out them in treatment.

Non-unionized employees are not protected against it, and have already been the subject of testing.

A Cornell University study, took data from 71 US construction companies within 2 years of implementing a drug testing program.
