FMPL launches new speaker series

Canadian author Malcom Gladwell and Bill Cosby will be coming to the Fort McMurray Public Library.

It is part of a new three-year-long speaker series called Northern Insights.
FMPL Board chair Jon Tupper says this is an exciting step

“We’ve seen this library grow from a regional library to this beautiful library here at MacDonald Island Park, and we’re committed to taking this library and making it a world-class library, and this is one of the steps we’re taking))It will bring world class authors, speakers, journalists and thinkers to the region.”

COO of MacDonald Island Park Tim Reid says that events such as this, show the amazing partnership of having a library in a recreational facility.

“It just further diversifies the guest we get to host here so its not just about recreational users, sports teams and rock star, now we’ve got international speakers that I think just elevates what we can do to a whole new level.”

Mayor Melissa Blake says that its not about what exists in a library but what happens in it.

“The opportunity again for the community, whether they have a affiliation with the library or an affinity for the speakers that will be apart of that series will be able to find a opportunity to again, get some wit and some wisdon and connect with people who have similar interest.”
