UPDATE: Man identified in collision on hwy 63

UPDATED STORY:

A 38 year old man is dead after an accident that shut down Highway 63 for hours Saturday.

It happened just north of Fort McKay.

The man’s family has requested to not have his name released though it has been confirmed that he is from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

It is reported that his southbound transport truck crossed the center-line and collided head-on with a northbound truck hauling an oversized load.

The northbound driver did not sustain any physical injuries.

The investigation is continuing though poor road conditions at the time are suspected to be a contributing factor.

BACKGROUND STORY:

One person is dead after a collision North of Fort McKay

Wood Buffalo RCMP say the collision occurred Saturday on Highway 63 north of Fort McKay.

Details are limited, but reports say two transport trucks collided north of Fort McKay, killing one person.
It’s not known at this time how the crash happened or how many people in all were involved.

Highway 63 was closed in both directions for many hours Saturday night; reopened by RCMP after 10pm (1 lane open alternating NB/SB) with significant delays expected throughout the night.
