API confident of XL approval

The American Petroleum Institute says it’s confident the Keystone XL pipeline is going to get the green light.

Cindy Shield with the API says after 5 years of study and numerous changes to the route, the state of Nebraska and the whole country ought to approve it.

“This issue is not complicated,” she said. “It’s easy. The President can and should approve the Keystone XL pipeline. Most Americans and a bipartisan majority in Congress support it, and our country needs the jobs and the energy.”

John Kerekes with the API says he’s confident Nebraska will soon approve the new route for the line, which will force President Barack Obama to make a final call.

“This pipeline application has been the most studied in history,” he said. “It’s now time to wrap the study up, hold the final hearing, issue a report to the governor, then let the governor communicate to the federal government the decision on behalf of the state of Nebraska.”

The U.S. Ambassador to Canada says he expects the President will make a decision on the 7 billion dollar line from Alberta to the Gulf Coast sometime in the first quarter of 2013.
