Campers have 2 months to leave

The Rotary Campground is packing up and leaving, and not just for the season.

The land was sold, and developers are looking to turn it into a residential neighborhood and golf course.

Rotary was under the impression they would have notice a year in advance, to clear out the campground.

The recently sent out letter to campers states that due to changed plans the developers have given the approximate 50 RV’s notice to be out of the campground by January 31st.

This was the first time the campers had heard anything about leaving.

MyMcMurray.com has contacted the Rotary Club, and is waiting for a reply.

Campground manager Karen Charlton says shes concerned.

“There are no campgrounds in Fort McMurray that cater to the tourism of Fort McMurray, or people who come up here for trade shows or sales people.”

She says that she knows of the one in Gregoire, though they often have very little to no vacancies.

She has been phoning the patrons that come and go throughout the year.

“They’re very concerned, and I’m concerned for them.”

She’s worried about the campers who have to leave, and also the tourism Fort McMurray will lose.

“There’s no preparations for another campground for the tourism.”
