Province could look at studying oil by rail

Sending oil by rail.

The provincial government is looking at a study on a 24-hundred kilometer rail line, that would send oil from the oil sands to an Alaska port.

The government is expected to make a decision this month on whether to invest in a $10-million study which would be part of a larger $40-million one.

A business consortium called Generating for Seven Generations (G7G), has asked the province to contribute the money.

Energy Department spokesman Mike Deising said the cabinet will not consider the request.

The G7G Railway would run from Fort McMurray to Delta Junction, Alaska.

It would then transfer the crude to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline system and flow on to the Valdez Marine Terminal.
