Northern Gateway pipeline hearings resume today

Hearings on the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline have resumed today in Victoria.

Opponents are furious that the public is blocked from the hearings and must watch from a television in a room almost 5 kilometers away.

Over a one week period the federal panel reviewing the matter will hear submissions from presenters in a hotel about the Alberta-to-BC pipeline.

At noon today protest are expected outside the hotel.

The proceedings will continue in Victoria till the 11th and then move to Vancouver from the 14th to the 1st of February.

Kelowna has a single day of submissions on the 28th of January.

The proposed $6-billion line is facing controversy from First Nations, environmental groups and the British Columbian government.

The 1,200 kilometer line would take Alberta crude to a port on the BC coast, to then be shipped to Asian markets.

Once the public hearings are done, the panel will resume its cross-examination hearings in Prince Rupert, B.C.

The regulatory committee is expected to reach its decision by December.
