Barons ship out captain Maschmeyer, veteran Hendrix

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons fundamentally reshaped their roster at Thursday’s AJHL trade deadline.

The Barons pulled off a blockbuster deal with the Nanaimo Clippers of the British Columbia Hockey League, sending captain Brock Maschmeyer west after three marquee seasons with the MOB.

The deal has not been confirmed, but MyMcMurray is reporting exclusively that at least part of the return will see the Barons receive 1994-born forward Kevin Miller and future considerations.

Miller is an 18-year old forward from Stony Plain who scored 41 points in 33 games with the St. Albert Raiders Midget AAA team last year, before registering 9 points in 29 games with Nanaimo this year.

The Barons also traded leading scorer Harry Hendrix to the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL’s South division, in exchange for future considerations.

A former Baron was also on the move, as the Grande Prairie Storm acquired veteran power forward Brett Printz from the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan league for future considerations.

The Barons’ next game is against Printz’s new team, as the Storm come into town Saturday night at 8 o’clock at the Casman Centre.

Pre-game coverage starts at 7:45 that night on Country 93.3.
