Fort McMurray saw a housing start boom in December.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reports that this year a total of 162 foundations were poured compared to 66 last year.
Numbers though decreased for single detached starts by 29 percent.
Only 32 foundations have been poured compared to 20-11 December results of 45.
From January to December housing starts declined by 18 percent.
The Canadian Press reports that Royal Bank C-E-O Gord Nixon said that the overall real estate market in Canada is still relatively solid.
