Heat delayed to bus shelters

Up and running heated bus shelters will be delayed until February

The city originally planned to have them running mid-December.

It says the delays are because of design, electrical and construction safety considerations.

The shelter installation process was modified to ensure workers’ safety through inclement weather, which also resulted in delays.

Right now 39 of the 144 shelters have been completed.

A total of 66 have heat but still need further adjustments.

Once ATCO has heaters in all of them the contractor for the doors will power them on so that they open and close properly,

They are for public transit and industry buses.

In a release manager of Transit Services Dale D’Arcy says, “The process of completing the shelters is spread evenly throughout the urban service area, this approach ensures the maximum benefit to residents as the shelters come online.”
