Medevac services won't suffer with airport closure: province

Medevac services in the north won’t suffer when the Edmonton City Centre Airport closes in March, according to the province.

It says it’s making sure a new thirty-six hundred square metre hangar at the Edmonton International Airport in Leduc will be well-equipped to deal with all kinds of patients.

The new hangar will be right next to the STARS Air Ambulance facilities.

It’ll have a six-bed patient care area with EMS staff for less urgent patients.

It’ll also have dedicated ground ambulances to get patients to hospitals.

The most urgent patients will be flown from the airport to a hospital using a helicopter.

STARS will also be able to land directly at hospitals when it transports someone from an emergency like a car crash.
