Nebraska governor endorses Keystone XL

The Keystone XL oil sands pipeline has gotten an important endorsement south of the border.

Nebraska governor Dave Heineman has approved the new route for the line that avoids the state’s Sandhills region.

That was the main reason why the original route was rejected, as the region is environmentally sensitive and contains a large amount of the state’s groundwater supply.

Heineman sent a letter to President Barack Obama today confirming that he would allow the project to go ahead in his state.

TransCanada is still waiting for approval from the State Department to allow the project to go ahead.
