Let January 31st be Emerald Day

The municipality will now be recognizing January 31st as Emerald Day.

It is a program by the Alberta Emerald Foundation that works to recognize, celebrate and inspire environmental excellence.

The goal of the day is to inspire more people to take action towards supporting a healthy environment.

On Thursday at noon, Mayor Melissa Blake will officially mark the day at Keyano College.

Spirit Bear Youth Coalition’s Simon Jackson will give the keynote address.

He is one of Time Magazine’s Sixty Heroes for the Planet for his work in conserving habitat for endangered animals.

There will be presentations, and displays from local environmental leaders including the Wood Buffalo Environmental Association, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo Environmental Services, Fort McMurray Environment Week and Father Mercredi  High School.

Everybody is invited out to join in the celebrations of Emerald Day.
