TransCanada considering converting gas pipeline for bitumen

TransCanada is considering converting a massive natural gas pipeline to carry oil sands bitumen.

The CBC reports that the company could use the Canadian Mainline, which is 14 thousand kilometres long.

It could be converted to carry oil and extended to reach refineries on the east coast.

The project would cost five billion dollars.

It could be the company’s only option if the U.S. doesn’t approve the seven billion dollar Keystone XL pipeline project to get bitumen south.
