Lack of pipeline access named nation's #2 biggest barrier

Canada’s inability to get oil overseas has been named the second biggest barrier to competitiveness in the country by the national Chamber of Commerce.

In its latest top ten list, it says the country lost out on 50 million dollars every day last year because it can only get most of its energy products to one market, where demand is falling.

It says in 2013, it will advocate the federal government doing more to convince the public of the opportunities in energy development.

It also says there needs to be more outreach about the technological advancements and safety improvements of pipelines and tankers.
