SPCA temporarily closed because of an outbreak of strep zoo

TThe Fort McMurray SPCA will be temporarily closed until next Thursday.

It was a recommendation by a veterinarian because strep zoo has been found in one dog at the shelter.

It’s a highly contagious illness that can be passed between species, and be spread through sneezing, and coughing.

It can survive for up to two weeks if its not treated.

The SPCA is asking anyone who have visited the shelter in past 10 days to take some precautionary measures.

Call your vet if there is any respiratory symptoms in your animalsĀ  such as sneezing, runny nose, or bloody discharge of any kind.

The infected animal should be kept isolated from other animals, people who are ill, or who have a low immune system.

There should be little handling of the animal, and afterwards, clothes should be changed, and hands washed.
