Province's debt plan doesn't worry economists

Financial experts aren’t too worried about the province’s plan to borrow money again.

Fred Ketchen of Scotia Capital says the only concern is whether it becomes a trend.

“Because you can overborrow, and then all of a sudden find out somewhere down the road that you can’t afford to carry it,” he said.

Robert Kavcic with BMO says it looks like the province will eventually have the money to pay back the loans it’s taking out.

“It’s not as acute a problem for Alberta to be concerned about debt as it is for a province like Ontario or Quebec,” he said.

One of the major projects being financed by debt is the twinning of Highway 63.
