Shell announces $868,000 in new funding for community projects

Today, new funding for three community projects received $868-thousand.

Shell Albian Sands and its joint venture owners in the Athabasca Oil Sands Project, Chevron and Marathon  have given $500-thousand to support the Mikisew Cree First Nation Elders Care Centre in Fort Chipewyan.

This will give elders an area where they can celebrate their culture, gather and share their traditional knowledge.

The Steps Forward program in Fort McKay got $250-thousand which will go towards helping people of all ages looking to upgrade their skills and prepare for a more fulfilling career.

And $118-thousand will go to support three youth safety programs through Safe Community Wood Buffalo,for kids in grades 8-12 in Fort McMurray, Fort McKay and Fort Chipewyan.

In October Shell also announced it would spend $2.5-million as the title sponsor for the MacDonald Island Expansion Project known as Shell Place.
