A new oil sands project is set to start up in the next few days.
Imperial Oil’s 13 billion dollar Kearl oil sands is the first new project to open in the area since 2008.
The site about 70 kilometres north of Fort McMurray will start off producing about 110,000 barrels per day, which will eventually increase up to 345,000.
The first step is to fill storage tanks and the pipeline, something that’s expected to take about 90 days.
