Interchanges on 63 to finish this season

Getting on to highway 63 from Thickwood or Confederation Way will be easier after this years construction season

Alberta Transportation’s Jeanna Friedley says there’s one project that needs to be finished.

“Basically the ramps need to be finished on both those interchanges, and hopefully we’re done before the snow falls again.”

She says the ramps needed a certain amount of distance from the interchange for a smooth and safe transition onto the highway.

“That’s what we’re missing at this stage with the temporary ramps, and that’s what should be immensely improved with completed ramps at the end of this season.”

She says when the construction is complete the temporary ramps won’t be used.

“Lines will be painted, signage in place, these are no longer construction zones.”

People should see the construction start later this spring.”

The lights at the bottom of Confed will also be taken out.

A meeting later this month between Alberta Transportation and contractors will determine what will be done during construction for traffic management.

She says this should improve traffic flow.

Alberta Transportation says that they are very happy with the feedback people have given them, and changes have been made because of it.

“We want to hear it respectfully, but we want to hear it”
