RCMP charge two suspects under Animal Protection Act

Two men from Fort McMurray are facing multiple animal abuse charges in relation to their sled dogs.

In a joint investigation with the SPCA and local veterinarians, Wood Buffalo RCMP were pointed to a lot near Highway 69.

They determined multiple dogs were underweight, living in sub-standard conditions, and had many untreated medical conditions.

Six dogs are now in the care of the SPCA.

The 25 and 59-year-old suspects are being charged with permitting animals to be, or continue to be, in distress; failing to provide adequate food and water; failing to provide adequate care when the animal is wounded or ill; and failing to provide the animal with reasonable projection from injurious cold.

All charges were filed under the Animal Protection Act.
