Harper in New York, promoting energy prospects

The Prime Minister is in the ‘Big Apple’ today promoting Canada’s energy prospects to a leading U.S think tank.

Stephen Harper is expected to stress to the Council on Foreign Relations that Canada is halfway towards meeting its target for greenhouse gas emissions.

The `halfway’ claim is all the measures both provincial and federal governments have taken and the total effect they’ll have on emissions by 2020.

Lots of analysts suggest that closing the other half will take a miracle or a national carbon pricing program.

The feds are trying to voice the steps it has taken to ensure pipeline safety, while opposition continues to grow.

The Obama Administration is expected to make a decision on TransCanada’s Keystone X.L pipeline in the near future.
