2 weeks until YMM connects with DEN and 160 destinations

Fort McMurray’s travel options will grow substantially in 2 weeks.

The Fort McMurray Airport celebrated new daily direct flights to the Denver International Airport Wednesday night.

Laura Jackson is Denver Airport’s Senior Director of Air Service Development.

She  says Denver’s connections make it a prime location

“People can arrive from Fort McMurray and then connect to over 100 cities, so they wait maybe 90 minutes or 2 hours and then connect somewhere else,” she adds, “It’s very easy to connect through Denver.”

She says the partnership is beneficial to tourists south of the border as well.

“Half of our passenger traffic to Canada is to Alberta and British Columbia,” she continues, “With the growth here it’s natural to connect Denver with Fort McMurray; there’s a lot of oil connections between the two communities.”

She says Suncor is an example.

“Suncor has a large refinery just outside of Denver and they have a lot going on up here with the oil sands, so that’s one example of a company that could create additional business as a result.”

The first United Airlines flight to Denver will fly out of YMM June 7.
