Enbridge: looking to make pipeline safety perfect

Enbridge is looking to make pipeline safety perfect.

The company’s market development V.P Vern Yu said this to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce last week.

The Globe and Mail reports him saying the company has more than 99.9-percent of its liquids traveling the network without any incident.

He notes it’s not flawless, but the public scrutiny the energy sector faces has caused it to raise its bar internally.

He says the corporate culture needs to change from one that accepts a small degree of failure to one that accepts none.

This all comes as Enbridge looks to meet with members of B.C Premier Christy Clark’s new government  on its Northern Gateway project.

It’s looking to build a 1,200 kilometre bitumen pipeline from Alberta to ports in Kitimat B.C where the product can then be shipped to foreign markets.

Clark’s government earlier set 5 conditions for the line to win her approval that include consulting with First Nation communities, better marine spill protection and a share of the profit.
