According to a Canadian think-tank, the biggest obstacle of the approval of the Northern Gateway oil sands pipeline is Aboriginal communities.
The MacDonald-Laurier Institute says the line to B.C could get better public feedback by engaging First Nations as stakeholders.
The authors point to 6 key factors that would see the Northern Gateway completed.
They include creating a seperate stream of revenue for First Nations along the pipeline, a long term region-wide aggreement that guarantees jobs and world-leading environmental monitoring and spill response.
The authors say if the project becomes a missed opportunity, all Canadians would be affected.
