New high rises in downtown Fort McMurray could mean condos as cheap as $209,000, according to a new study.
The City Centre redevelopment group has released projections from consulting firm Urbanation out of Toronto.
It suggests that new 10-storey buildings have a tenth of their units be cheap bachelor pads, with a third of the building smaller one-bedrooms costing from $228,000 to $252,000.
It recommends a quarter then be larger one bedroom apartments, and the final third be two-bedroom condos.
The firm says about 20% of new housing developments will be in the city centre until 2015; the municipality’s goal of 40% wouldn’t be reached until 2030.
