MP Brian Jean and Mayor Melissa Blake were in Denver this morning to welcome the first direct flight from Fort McMurray.

From now on flights will leave YMM at 6AM to be in Denver by 9AM.

Flights returning will leave the Jepsen Airport at 8:15PM to arrive here at 11:18PM

They’ll use a CRJ-700 aircraft with 66-seat capacity: six seats in United First Class, 28 seats in Economy Plus and 32 seats in economy.

It’s all to connect the region with the fifth busiest airport in the States that has more than 17-hundred flights to more than 180 destinations.

Next June, Fort McMurray’s new $258-million airport terminal will open, and it’s expected to bring on even more national and international flights.
